«La lecture peut-elle être une opportunité de rencontre?»

« À moins d’avoir une organisation comme nous autres, ce qu’on fait ici, je vois pas comment rencontrer quelqu’un sur la lecture. Que je sois à la bibliothèque, que je sois dans le métro, la personne qui lit un livre, admettons, sur les planètes, je m’en vais pas lui sacrer une claque dans le dos « hey! À quelle planète tu es rendu? ». La personne elle me répondra pas. La personne qui lit elle est rendue sur la planète Pluton – pas Crypton, la planète de superman, Pluton – elle me répondra pas ça. Éventuellement, pour rencontrer des gens, il faut pouvoir faire des organisations comme vous autres. Sinon, oubliez-ça. » Serge, spécialiste de l’astrophysique rencontré dans le cadre des ateliers Biblio-Libre au PAS de la rue, tire son savoir des documentaires de la BANQ, niveau 2, rayon 523.

En répondant à la question « La lecture peut-elle être une opportunité de rencontre? », il nous livre à quels besoins, selon lui, répondent nos activités. Serge ne nous a certainement pas attendu pour être instruit, ni passionné. Ce qu’il semble en revanche trouver avec Exeko, c’est l’opportunité de partager son savoir, d’apprendre de ceux des autres, et de se mettre à l’épreuve de leurs réflexions. Les ateliers Biblio-Libre sont les seuls, dit-il, auxquels Serge participera cet été au PAS de la rue. Présent du début à la fin, il est d’une aide précieuse pour la médiation, et nourrit la réflexion collective de ses points de vue qui ouvrent et élargissent les perspectives communes. Certes on lit de littérature, mais Serge nous rappelle qu’on lit plein d’autres choses, pour des raisons tout à fait utilitaires et légitimes : on lit pour faire une recette de cuisine, ou une notice pour monter un mobilier. Il recentre la compréhension de la lecture, dans une conception plus ouverte. Certes grâce à la généralisation de la scolarisation, la lecture est de plus en plus à la portée de tous.te.s. Serge nous rappelle toutefois qu’il n’en a pas toujours été de même, et qu’il fut un temps où on privilégiait le travail à l’instruction des enfants. Ces personnes allée au primaire par intermittence et drop out du secondaire n’étaient pas stupides faute de savoir lire, elles ont développé leur intelligence par d’autres moyens. Lorsque Présence-Absence, un participant portant la voix des métaphysiciens du temps de Thomas d’Aquin, se lance dans une analyse spéculative, Serge lui propose obstinément et patiemment de sortir un des nombreux livres de son sac et d’en lire le titre. Présence-Absence, en hommage au domaine de spécialisation de Serge, sort un livre écrit par Jeff Foster, qu’il décrit comme un « astrophysicien qui a tout lâché ». Serge s’y plonge et nous lit le sommaire, constatant la multiplicité des thématiques. L’échange se poursuit.

Voici, à travers l’esquisse du portrait de Serge, quelques moments choisis des ateliers au PAS de la rue. Y être aurait permis de l’apprécier pleinement, mais j’espère que ces quelques lignes fournissent un aperçu, une petite fenêtre sur les moments de plaisir que nous y avons vécu.

 

Alors que se terminent les ateliers Biblio-Libre au PAS de la rue, de surprenants portraits littéraires à plusieurs voix prennent vie à l’Accueil Bonneau. Du côté de l’Auberge Madeleine, les femmes prolongent chaque lundi l’exploration créative de multiples genres littéraires, du roman historique aux correspondances littéraires, tout en mettant à l’épreuve de ces genres leur vision du monde et d’elles-mêmes.
